INTERVIEW: iwordbooks
Tell us a little about yourself and your background.
I have a top-level corporate management background, but I had a flair for writing from my school days. This crystallized about a decade back and resulted in the release of my historical romance novel, “Wings of Freedom”, followed by another romance novel “The Full Circle”. Lately, I have turned to writing poetry also and the result is “The Morning Glory”, a compilation of poems touching various shades of life. I love writing fiction and poetry to bring to life the stories and poems that emanate in my mind from the day-to-day incidents in life. New thoughts and ideas provide a challenge and excitement in my life that then permeate my books to entertain and promote a social message to my readers.
Tell us about your current release, “The Morning Glory--A Book of Poetry”.
The book comprises a collection of poems, like a multi-hued garland interlaced with the diverse thoughts and experiences nurtured in my life. The poems encompass the reflections of the grandeur of nature and the universe and its impact on the day-to-day lives of human beings. In this poetry book, the readers can rejoice with the breeze of adolescent romance, the fragrance of love, the sounds of bugles of victory and nationalism, the romance of cloud messenger, the allurement of mythology and several such heart-touching themes. Also, they can introspect on the roar of the crumbling nature, the threat of world extinction, the dimensions of liberty, the need for justice and illusory global peace that will keep them engaged and inspired.
Give us some interesting facts about your book, based on your personal experiences.
Some of the poems reflect my personal experiences. For example, the imagery for the emerging dawn in poem THE SPLENDOUR OF DAWN is based on my minute step-by-step observations during the night supervision in a factory where I worked at the beginning of my career.
Another such example is the poem LIFE OF A SILKWORM which was inspired by a visit to a sericulture factory where I felt saddened to see the cruel treatment to the silkworms.
Are there any poems in “The Morning Glory” that carry a message to the society. If so, can you share it?
Yes, there are quite a few of them, but I would particularly like to name two poems. EXISTENCE OR EXTINCTION deals about the continuous damage to the environment being caused by the man that could ultimately result in his extinction. The poem NOTIONS OF WAR depicts the irrationality of wars and how the egos of a few world leaders lead to a massive destruction.
In addition to your poetry book, you have written two novels. Which form you enjoy writing more than others? Yes, I started my journey as an author with the publication of my first novel “Wings of Freedom”, a historical romance which was followed by another novel “The full Circle” a contemporary romance.
But the seeds for writing poetry had been remaining latent in my mind since my school and college days when I had to opportunity to relish the great poetry of the British, American and Indian poets including, to name a few, Wordsworth, Shelley, Robert Frost, Walt Whitman and Rabindranath Tagore. So, after finishing my second novel, I focussed on poetry writing.
I feel that I have started enjoying poetry writing more, particularly as it gives me an opportunity to delve deeply on various topics like nature, philosophy of life, mysteries of the universe and the like.
